Dev Blog #97: Getting There

With all major features now in place, we’re making sure that everything works as it should and is properly balanced for you to play. At the same time, we’re squeezing in a few more quality of life improvements that you’ve been asking for, and our artist is adding some more polish to the game – such as an overhauled appearance of your employers. Let’s discover what more is new with the upcoming update!

The Nobility

Your employers now actually look like they have the money to hire a mercenary company, as they’ve received a bunch of new clothes and hats that make them look sufficiently spoiled and arrogant.

War between noble houses is one of the three upcoming late game crises. Because you’ll be fighting a lot more soldiers of those noble houses now, we’ve overhauled their units for more variety and challenge. They’ve become more specialized with dedicated users of polearms and greatswords, and they also got some new hats to have the individual units stand out more. Lootable, of course.

You may also recall that they got a second and new glorious music track playing when you fight them.

Quality of Life Improvements

We managed to squeeze in a few more quality of life improvements this week. One of those is a feature many of you have been waiting for: the ability to speed up time on the worldmap.

Have you ever escorted a caravan, got attacked by overwhelming enemy hordes and decided that this really isn’t worth dying over? You’re now able to leave that caravan behind, quite possibly to die, directly from the worldmap. No need anymore to tediously move every one of your men to the edges of the combat map first.

Finally, the tooltip for any faction in the relations screen will now show you a log of all recent events, positive and negative, that influenced your relation. Makes it much easier to understand why someone’s hating your guts.

And Next Week…

Our very own Jaysen will start a new Let’s Play series and guided tour through everything that’s new and yours to experience later this February!

Knigth’s chain shown on one of your nobles is something worthy to add later in the game as an amulet with some stats/powers at least kind of morale boost. It looks awesome and adds more colours to the game.

By the way I like how you add something close to the German history&culture. Might been as for high-tier threats you should consider to add Raubritters.

    What i can say…
1.I am proud of you, guys, your example showing that among the devs there are fans of their business with hands that grow from the right place.
    2. I am happy for myself that at one time supported this project, noting briliant
    3. I feel a little regret cuz I see how much more you can add to this wonderful game, but understand that you can not refine it forever. Hopefully some interesting and complex suggestions can be done in DLS, no doubt I’ll buy it for the full price.
    Thank you very much.

Looks awesome guys! Would our Merc company be able to put their emblem on their shields like the knights do in the late-game?

During faction wars will we be able to help totally destroy a faction, and if so will we get the chance to kill its nobles?

You are already able to kill nobles on the battlefield in the current version, but it is not possible to kill all members of a noble house, for more information see: http://steamcommunity.com/app/365360/discussions/0/458606877320740207/#c458606877328048409
As far as I know, this will not change with the coming update.

By “faction wars” you mean “war between noble houses”, don’t you?
I cannot find the post, but if I recall correctly, it was said that during a war between noble houses the noble houses are able to conquer the settlements of the other ones and will try to do so, excluding the house’s bastion/stronghold – that one will always belong to the rightful house.
So no, one will not be able to help to completely destroy a noble house.

For some additional information, (re-)read this dev blog:

Thank you for the info! I did mean war between noble houses, its cool we can kill nobles but I was hoping for the possibility to unify the land under one banner. I knew noble houses would be able to conquer each others settlements but could not find where it says noble houses can not be destroyed. If you ever find it please let me know, also I have never gotten to kill a noble unless your talking about faction knights. How do you accomplish this?

The only major feature lacking is auto-turn or skip-turn button (perhaps defensive\offensive based).
Because to spend up to 8 or 10 turns with 12 fighters in swamps or wood just to find an enemy is extremely frustrating and time-consuming.
Also, when joining fight on hilly terrain etc.: starting at opposite edge and spending 5 or 6 turns just moving 3-4 tiles per turn, waiting to see any enemy.
Also sometimes enemy flees and 2-3 turns until any brother or dog catches someone fleeing (or maybe not) – to auto-turn by AI and see if anyone is caught in hand-to hand or just flew away would be a fantastiс feature
Otherwise brilliant game, just brilliant one of the best last 25 years.

I’d kill for modding, sersiously. Or a huge DLC which I’d definitely pay for with actual abillity to mod a game.
That would definitely increase the sales when people would see how much is going on on the modding front. Just take a look at Rimworld. Personally, I bought it only because of modding.

I second the request for a potential modding dlc sometime after launch. That would open up so many cool possibilities for weapons, armor or banners!

Never thought about this before, but would be cool to loot a Standard Bearers Pole Arm where we would have our personal banner on it…..

Any plans to touch AI in this update or it will wait?

Also I hope that these doppelsoldner hats offer some protection because they will be easy to one shot and it will be shame to not grab them and use for your own soldiers as they look cool.

Unit positioning on the start of the combat, if not ambushed would be a really great feature. Random positioning does not make a sense. For example, the game picks a lower level position at the start of a combat, when you can take better higher grounds instead.

If used together with a roster from the world map, at least party positioning would be nice (personally I would prefer unit positioning).

You’ve done a great job. While I wish you had certain features in the game (*cough* tactical maps *cough*), the current features you’ve chosen are more than good enough, and keeping to it was a wise decision. Can’t wait for the full feature release!

As I mentioned early, I and all my friends who bought or received from me this game as a gift, ready to buy DLC. I think it’s more or less coincides with the further dev’s plans.) I personally during some time collecting information and make some conclusions about what the most adequate players wish to see in our game. Of course we are talking about “real things”, things that the developers themselves would have wanted and mentioned but did not have time to make or interesting additions that have enriched the gameplay. i hope it can be useful for further “suggestions” … after release, if the developers will consider to make DLC with additional game features.

Is the update being released alongside the Let’s Play video? Or later this month? I can’t wait!
