Although there is certainly magic in this game what with the werewolves and undead I get the feeling that it is still an extremely rare occurrence. The sort of thing one of your brothers mentions in a hushed voice by the campfire after a day of walking. He was in a far away city at the local inn, and even then he wasn’t sure if it wasn’t a trick of the light but he swears he saw a man make fire in his hand and grow 10 feet tall. Then all his brothers scoff at him and laugh and go back to drinking.
To put it another way, the lore they are building leads me to believe what magic there is, is in the hands of Gandalf-like figures who are so great and powerful their concerns are with the Kingdoms and the world at large. A band of 12 warriors would be but a pawn of a pawn of pawn of theirs.
