I have a new question for you!
Just wondering. Will you have “events” in the game? I have been playing Expeditions: Conquistador (excellent RPG/TBS) and that game has some really cool events. They happen at random intervals when you travel the map, and it gives you the oppertunity to make some important decisions. You also get to know your crew a lot better through these events. I know your game and this game is not really the same, since Conquistador have established characters with written background, and the character in Battle Brothers will be randomly created, but I still think it could work.
For an exampel. You find something interesting while traveling on the strategic map, and you will have to decide if you want to investigate or not. And if you do, you will have to select who you want to send in to investigate and the end result would be something like this: Your group stumbles across an ancient crypt. It could be dangerous to enter but at the same time the men wonders what riches it could hold. The group decide to send in Björn (random battle born that you choose). Some time passes and the group starts to move around anxiously, is Björn dead? Shall the group move on? (You decide that the group waits a few more hours) The group decides to give Björn a little more time before continuing. After a while Einar suddenly see a battered man stumble out from the crypt. It’s Björn! he yells. Einer rushes forward and helps Björn get his footing. Björn explains that he found some loot far inside the crypt, but on his way out he fell down a hole and hurt his leg and had to limp out. He further explains that it’s not a serious wound and that he is glad that the others waited for him to return and didn’t let him turn undead in there. Einer lets up a smile and gives Björn a friendly tap on the back, the battle brothers laugh and continues on thier way.
You get 500 gold worth of loot
You find an ancient sword, still sharp!
Björn gets (unique) trait?Well, something like that. And I guess you could randomise the outcome, maybe Björn dies and noone comes out. Or instead of Björn 5 angry skellies rush out. Other games that I can think of that have these great events are Crusader Kings 2 & and the Banner Saga.
Anyway just an idea.31. July 2014 at 13:46 #921RapKeymasterIndeed we plan on having events! I, too, liked the events of Expeditions: Conquistador. They’re a great tool to bring some variety for gameplay and support the atmosphere. On the other hand, we have to make sure that they’re no hindrance to our open world gameplay and replayability; randomizing them to some extent, like you said, seems a good option. At this point we’re still pretty much at the “it would be cool to have events” stage and just bouncing ideas, so I can’t tell you how our events will work exactly yet. They probably won’t be as dialogue-heavy as the Conquistador ones, though, not least because none of us is a writer.
Also, nice example event you have there (:
