House Troops Absent in Battles after Appearing to Take Your Side

If you’re at hostile relations with one of the noble houses, and one of their patrols (and/or a band of mercenaries in their pay) moves in to attack you, any nearby patrols from a neutral house behave as though they are taking your side and their banner is displayed alongside yours on the pre-battle screen, but then they are absent in the battle and it is just you against the nobles/mercenaries.
