    Every time I attempt to change resolution or any visual settings (such as fullscreen/windowed), the program throws a critical error. The game plays perfectly other than this, but means I am unable to play it on my external monitor, which has a different resolution than my laptop.

    Try starting the game with admin rights.

    Just attempted, no change in behavior.
