    Hello dear Battlebrothers,

Im from Germany and very interested in this game. Because this Forum seems to be only English I will write in such, but keep in mind that it is my second language. ;D

My Question is how much Fantasy do you want to incorporate in your game ?

You said that you plan it mostly low fantasy without to much magic and fantasy creatures. But nethertheless you intruduced the Orc and Undead Faction. in my opinion this is not so far from Dwarves or Elves, which could be added also easily. They could fill some special roles within an army and add to the economy of the game a.e. they house places where no Humans live like Mountains for the Dwarfes and deep forests for the Elves. From there they could add a variety to the “trade and plunder” system.

Of course my ideas are very unfinished and I just would like to hear your opinion about them. ;)

    Greetings from Germany

A core element of the Battle Brothers setting is that regular humans, not even necessarily ones with fighting experience, have to overcome challenges with the means available to them. There are no over-the-top attacks for your Battle Brothers, like your archer shooting 3 arrows at once, just those you could realistically pull off with a real medieval weapon. Sometimes those guys happen to have to fight non-humans or even supernatural foes, which makes for even more of a challenge. This asymmetry between your regular humans, limited by what a human can do, and, for example, a necromancer wielding dark magic, is very much intended; your enemies should feel special, alien to a degree. It’s a great ingredient to many a horror movie and key to the atmosphere we want to build. But it would get lost in your run-of-the-mill fantasy mishmash if your guys started flinging fireballs or were, in fact, Elves or Dwarfs themselves.

That being said, if we get the opportunity, we’d love to expand the world with other human cultures eventually, e.g. one based on medieval Arabia – including weapons and armor of that area, unique cultural backgrounds for your characters, etc.

well that is quite a convincing answer.

I did not find a proper explanation for that beforehand. ;)

further ideas for different cultures :
    – something like a snowy region with norse culture humans and alien enemies. they would offer quite a lot a.e. a snowtroll faction. ^^

    Hi Anumen,
the snowy norse region would be the first thing I personally would like to tackle as early as possible. I’m an absolute sucker for Viking stuff :)
To separate it from our classical gear I would go into the “Rus” Viking style of Russia and Belarus.
If we are successful there will be expansions with all the big cultural settings and just like you mentioned that would include new enemy factions as well :)
