Global Faction Events

This idea just came to me, but I think it would be awesome:

Have global events between factions like wars etc or whenever two NPC factions collide that shift the power scale to their favor. So you will see more roaming bands of their faction the stronger they get. For example the Undead infecting everyone and becoming an epidemic. Eventually one faction will get so strong that even your mortal enemies will start asking for your help to kill them. This would give a real unique variation to every world map beyond any pre-scripted story.
