This post is not related to the end-game invasions and destruction of human settlements, but rather about the raiding of enemy faction bases. I had seen some people use multiple battles to raid a single enemy stronghold, such as with the Monolith. Earlier today, I attempted to do so in one of the Orc Warcamps (the ones with the Orc Warlord) I could not defeat in a single battle (not without losing a brother). It happens that I traveled to a nearby town with a temple to heal, a day or two went by, and when I returned, the enemy had their full numbers back up.

So, is it a matter of distance or time? And if it’s the latter, how much days does it take?

I think it is a matter of time AND distance.
Tried out just camping next to brigand fort that I attacked (killed about half of them and then retreated). A week went by but nothing changed, they were still down to the survivors of the attack.
Reloaded to just after the attack, took my company a good ways away (about half a day travel-time on steppe-terain), waited another two days, went back and the fort had a new garrison.

I also remember one time I was on my way back from some mission, completely packed full of loot and passed by a ruin that had a bunch of wiedergängers.
I went on to the nearest town, sold what I wanted to sell and went back to the ruin but now it was populated by ancient legonaries and some honor guards.
The trip back there had not taken more than a day. Was kinda weird but I guess the game just rolls a new garrison for a location everytime you enter a certain radius around it.

I think it’s replenished periodically (maybe 1 day?) if player’s party is not in a certain radius.

Well, to be honest that doesn’t happen to me. Once I discover a ruin or whatever, it keeps the same garrison, type and number of enemies. What happens is that if you discover a location, reload the game and discover it again it will have a different garrison. And I believe the loot and equipment of enemies within changes if you reload the game to the autosave and attack it again.

    Thanks for the help!

I think it replenishes when player doesn’t see it. Simple thing a lot of games use.
