The tactical depth it would add would not out-way the tedium of properly facing each brother on a given turn, or the re-balance of how that would effect action points. The combat system is sort of abstracted in the first place, the loss of the added realism is not missed by me.

Yeah, the shield wall thing from Troy is definitely cool, but not really in the scope of what I think they’re trying to do here. Current shield wall is simple and effective. Mounted troops adds a whole new balancing can of worms that I think would steal from the simple elegance of the tactical system they have going. Perhaps for Battle Brothers 2, when they have the money to hire 12 more people to develop it because they made so much money off of this massive hit (I hope)…

The utility tree already does this rather well with the Captain, Rally the Troops and Inspiring Presence perks. You can then assign those mercs ranks to match their envisioned role by changing their nicknames.

That’s a good point. Can always rename a character as “Captain [german name here]” if you wanted. I haven’t been able to put in enough hours yet to have a character that high leveled! So I’m not very familiar with the utility tree yet. Been working too many 14 hour days since Early Release! So instead I just watch the lets play videos and read the forums during my 14 hour work day :-).

I would worry that adding the banner would take up valuable hands that could be holding large axes instead :-). If the scale was a bit larger I think that wouldn’t be a bad idea though, but you may be able to make the same argument against ranks.

I like Drew’s suggestion of reputation and personifying political bodies within locations, that sounds cool and I think there is a lot of the good kind of variety in that direction rather than crafting.

In other news, I have had a change of heart with the suggested quality feature. I pondered the issue, and I think of mount and blade, how eventually equipping my 5-6 companions after each acquisition of loot becomes a huge chore – to the point where I stop giving them the latest and best because I’m too darn lazy. Now I imagine doing that with 12 companions! No thank you.

This is my new suggestion: Don’t add quality, leave crafting out – add low to mid level magical/special weapons that occasionally pop up, but not with such regularity that it is boring. Having a lean set of weapons will leave the player with more time to fight and adventure and less time clicking around in an equipment screen.

Easily accessible Graveyard screen, nice. The extra detail on death would be pretty sweet too as Malthus mentioned. Grave and battle markers on the map- I like the idea – but I can’t think of a way to implement it that wouldn’t clutter the map.

I am very forgetful. I have re-fought 3 battles due to this! But than again… I did better in each replay so maybe you should leave it out… hmmm…

I really don’t mind the German name for the Zombies. It is more true to the specific setting. Zombie has exploded so much in popular culture that every stinking game regardless of setting has a Zombie in it. It is a small thing that makes this game more unique, when I see zombie, I’m reminded of the Walking Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Fido and a million other things. Not being German, “Wiedergänger” just sounds spookier and less “pop.”
