Agreed! I would appreciate this tremendously, especially since initiative and fatigue are connected and turn orders change accordingly.

I would recommend veteran. Expert is very brutal and my playthroughs usually end abruptly within the first month. If veteran gets too easy go expert :). Personally I really enjoy rogue likes and the early game in BB so I don’t mind the low resources at the start and the lategame is pretty much the same. Crossbowmen can kill you in normal, veteran and expert if they get some lucky shots. In the end it’s completely up to you to decide how to play this game.
The only downside of expert for me is that rerolling maps takes forever. If my guys have garbage traits or the map is bad I reroll and since this happens a LOT I usually reroll for at least half an hour. Anyways, when you get to day 200 or so you will be swimming in crowns and at this point you mostly want to recruit very talented guys with good traits so recruiting and dismissing becomes a much needed gold-sink.

Action points and Fatigue are two different things but (most) actions require both. If you run out of fatigue you can’t do anything. You recover 15 fatigue every turn, 20 with iron lungs and there are some perks and traits that reduce fatigue usage (weapon mastery, pathfinder, athletic). Different weapons use more or less fatigue. A normal dagger or knife attack uses 7 fatigue, so you will always be able to attack twice with it. 1-h Swords with weapon mastery also only use 8 fatigue per attack. Orc cleavers are so heavy that they build up extra fatigue so without cleaver mastery or iron lungs trait you might not be able to attack even once.
Fatigue is really the bottleneck here and I think it’s a bit too punishing the way it works now. I can just recommend you give your guys swords and spears at the start since they only use 10 fatigue per attack. Spear- and Shieldwall take up a ton of fatigue so use them sparingly.
