All I did with my breakdown is compare them to the average “useful” battle brother. The scores are a perception of what I have experienced in the game. I AM NOT COMPARING THEM TO ORCS BTW. I don’t really have issues with orcs late game, but that is another discussion.

I have over 200hrs put into this game, starting over at least 50+ times, either bc the game got boring in the late game or I was playing mock “Ironman” and restarting when things got so bad I felt the need to do so. Goblins mid-late game are not nearly as scary. I have all I need to be able to kill them w/o problem. Crossbows, kite shields and plenty of experienced men.

My argument is Early game is a huge problem. I can reload now, but later when the real ironman mode comes, I don’t think it is right to put a foe like this against a bang of noob mercs.

Instances of why I feel this way,

Battle, Rush Gobbers with Shield wall.
-Get shot by 3 archers, sometime hitting in the head, and being near death on turn one ( at this point you know they are dead unless they retreat). Multiply this by a couple rounds and everyone is dead or near death. Not to mention the bolas hits. If a goblin can drop a fully armored high hp beast, they have no issues with a new merc squad.

Battle, engage Ambushers (ninjas) with several well “early game” armored warriors, goblin ninja pulls out uber knife and stabs high level brother in the face killing him. Gobber then proceeds to double stab piercing through armor and slaying other brothers. Losing half my brothers is not a victory even it it says so.

The 6 vs 30 thing was not my post but I can relate bc I have personally seen that happen as well.

Squibie there is a difference, your posts were trollish and aggressive. Their posts are well thought out and passive. I like how you disregard other posts agreeing with me.

You are the trolliest of trolls sir. Instead of offering any kind of logical argument you resort to childlike taunts and baiting. You have not offered a speck of new information just more ASSumptions and nonsense. Try to get a life bud, ill get back to owning my business and being a productive member of society.

I find goblins weakest of all races. And i play deadly, ironman mode.

Ya ok sure, Goblins are weaker than Bandits… ya credibility lost.

People are just lazy and don’t change equipment and tactics according to what type of enemy is encountered. For goblins u need big shields on everyone, preferably feral or kite shields.

So you have enough money to buy all the needed gear and all of your guys have the luxury of having kite shields? Good for you, you encountered them mid-game. Try getting jumped early game and tell me how you do. When you are poor, you don’t have gear and you certainly don’t have an armory to choose from. If goblins are a mid-end game creature, then keep them there. Don’t blow up my early game progress with ambushers on a caravan mission.

All archers must change weapon to bow because of the extra range needed to snipe ambushers. Also dogs, as many as you can find.

If you are above a 10% chance to hit with a bow, you have enough levels to hold your own.Once again having dogs is a luxury. Especially if you started on deadly.

37 days in without save scumming. Eating goblins like bananas. Just beaten army of them supported by shaman without losing one guy. Please, if game is too hard, choose easier difficulty. Not cry on forums and try to destroy fun for me. Or other people who like tactics.

Look who wins the pompous jerk award.
    1. You are Arrogant- you got lucky if the first instance of you fighting goblins was when you had a full armory.
    2. You are Ignorant- The difficulty of the game does not change stats in any way, just starting gold.
    3. You make ASSumptions- Don’t assume I don’t like/love tactics, but having a high tier creature set destroy a low level merc group and the city they ran to is ridiculous for any game.
    3. A breakdown is not “crying”, its say “hey do something about the goblins at low levels.”

Edit: Forgot to add, i always fight goblins during day because i trust my archers.

This, this is what really destroys any credibility you have and tells me you are trolling. I mean seriously, I could care less if they “nerf” the goblins, I just don’t want an enemy I have no chance of beating on the map within 1 hour of starting.

Replace it with the following Perk

    Shield Master
    Grants “Beat Back” Skill
    Fatigue Cost: 20
    Type: Activate then Reactive
Activate this skill to attempt to deflect an attacker engaging you (moving into a hex adjacent to you) or missing you with an attack.
Hit foes are knocked back 1 space, suffer 10 fatigue and lose 1 AP.
This skill remains active until the start of your next turn, or until you are knocked back or stunned.

This skill could have some synergy with riposte and spear-wall.

Of course orcs would have this to ruin your day as well.

I am indeed one of those people who wants a challenge, I enjoy games more that way. Hence my want for an Ironman mode. I am only justifying the use of reloading to curb my disappointment with having to do so. Everyone else can play it their own way :).

I just know that only deadly mode, the death of few of one key merc seems devastating, so I wanted to see what others have done to overcome that situation. Having money saved up seems like a good solution so far.

Sekata, I feel we are kindred spirits, bc I often make the same mistakes, then I “justify” the save scrumming.

Saris I think you completely missed the question all together. I did not pose the question so you cold re-post an could suggestion. AS far as having 2 guys dead and 4.5k gold. Im not sure how this relates to a the question at all. I did not ask what do I do to said losses and I certainly did not ask for a BOOK on game-play.
I appreciate those who did come close to the topic.
MY QUESTION is, how do you come back from crushing losses? Also what was the worst loss you have suffered and decided to continue playing. Were you successful after?
Being that losses are inevitable. Weather luck had a hand or not. How do you bounce back when you lose nearly everyone. I myself have not tried it because I usually start over or reload, but getting ready for Iron man reloading won’t be an option.
I may be doing it to myself, but I start on deadly. My question may actually be for the devs. Are there bottom of the barrel missions to scrape back from nothing?

Goblin are Over Powered. It is ridiculous and not fun. This coming from someone who enjoys getting his ass kicked, and figuring it out later, but this is utter nonsense. Just No….No…….no.

Honestly, I wish you could do away with the PC idea all together. I never even take it into account. Once I get my starting guys, one usually stands out above the rest and I imagine him being the “commander”. All story is from his point of view. Once an entourage mechanic is implemented there should be a Promotion mechanic. Insignia that you drag and drop onto your battle brothers that designates them as the “Commander”- The leadership role., “The Hand” – The second in command, “duelist”- your go to martial champion. All mortal and all kill-able, but with a sense of control and order. Depending on that characters background they would give different bonuses and trigger different events. Tell a unique story every time.

Thanks for the insight guys. I am glad that most of these items are already being considered.

Of all the things on my list, I think I wanted the occasional Rare Battle Brother the most. Maybe from an event that you “save” them, perhaps on accident, and you have to decide whether it is worth it to you to trust them as it could betray you later. Anything to create a story through RNG. Those are always the best stories.;)

As far as dueling goes, I love the idea of a career duelist. I also love the idea of asking the question, of all my battle brothers which one would I choose to be my champion. Maybe he was once a lowly miller, but now he is a veteran of combat. If things go wrong the following fight could be awful, but if he wins, it could turn an impossible fight into a winnable scenario. What if he wins, but is too wounded to risk him in the rest of the fight? Again any chance that RNG can tell “My Story” is a huge step in the right direction in my book.

On a side note you could even make a new dueler skill path that allows for 1v1 combat bonuses.

This game has so much potential it is ridiculous. I already anticipate buying Battle Brother 2! Thanks again guys!
