New Background : Master Archer

For the free update with DLC. At the moment there are few skilled ranged backgrounds, for the high tier options hunter is really the go-to. I would like to see “Master Archer” background as an extremely rare but elite ranged option. Of course the price to hire this legendary archer would be very high.

My idea is that it is the rarest of the hireable backgrounds, as in not from a “special event”. In a 150 day run you may not see even one. On a 300 day run you may see one on average. This background would be seen in a city settlement near the wilderness and only at a time when the settlement situation is “Archery Contest”. What do you think? I have always wanted this background since first release !

I do agree that we could use some more ranged backgrounds. Bowyers often are an absolute joke, I usually only hire them when I absolutely can’t get any hunters at all.
Poachers are much worse than hunters but they cost ~500c so I’d rather buy one hunter than 2 or 3 poachers any day of the week.
Sellswords can be amazing, especially hybrids but they are expensive and as pure archers they have about the same potential as a poacher or bowyer.
The rest of the “ranged” backgrounds (Squire, Militia, Beast Slayer etc.) are usually even more expensive than poachers and have about the same potential (but a much bigger range).

Now a Master Archer background might be a little bit too strong. If they have a +10 ranged skill over a hunter (62-69) will be OP as soon as he gets some talents in it. “Perfect” Hunters (59***) are already absurdly strong, especially when they hit veteran levels.

A small buff to Poarchers and (a bigger buff to) Bowyers base stats would help a lot with the struggle for early archers.
Maybe Poachers 49-52 (instead of 47-49) and Bowyers 48-53 (from 42-52).

But the purpose of the background is to be an ultra rare find, that is exciting when you see it. A legendary archer. Good for the late game when even you could consider dropping one of your lower proficiency veteran hunters for this master archer. It makes for interesting narrative and story telling while bringing something to the table in terms of gameplay (late game options). The overall power of the background is balanced by its rarity and cost.

As I mentioned I think it would be cool if he only showed up when there is archery tournament taking place ! It would make the archery tournament be an exciting settlement situation even in late game because of the rare chance of seeing one of these legends for hire. As it stands for late game archers everyone just hires hunters and I want to see even a tiny variation to this. I think it should be one of those memorable run defining moments like getting a good assassin or the masterwork bow.
