If you take a look at a weapon’s tooltip, you’ll see its classification. The Longaxe, for example, says ‘Axe, Two-Handed’, meaning it’s governed by the Axe Mastery perk. Works like this for every weapon in the game.

Yes. Unless otherwise stated, ‘damage’ means total damage, i.e. both to hitpoints and armor.

That’s not an issue of the game itself, but of either your anti-virus solution or of Steam. I recommend you put the game on the exception list of your anti-virus solution or disable it temporarily, and restart Steam or, if none of these work, contact Steam support.
