SuperCaffeineDudeParticipant
Just wanted to say I’ve been loving the art Paul! I hardly get a chance to play currently, but love seeing your work.
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantRevamp
Concept: Liger with porcupine,
Pouncing Beast: May leap from 3 tiles dealing an attack.
Bristly Tail: The Manticore will swipe 4 tiles, dealing “quilled flesh”
Clawed Swipe: Knocks enemy away dealing rendering damage
Roar: Can stun, and knock back, will also deal fear to surrounding foes.Plaything (Passive): When it has killed a foe it will maul it to chunks dealing great fear to witnesses
Bristled Defence (Passive): When attacked within 1 tile, the attacker is likely to suffer “quilled flesh”SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantThanks for clarifying, that’s very interesting, I can understand that you wouldn’t want to lower the quality of storytelling, and I suppose they’d still be a few errors even if you wrote a script to replace gender pronouns in terms of context. As a follow-up suggestion it’d still be cool to see what you could do with females in zombie and civilian parties
Interesting to hear you may be looking to create additional content, I’ll obviously be keeping my fingers crossed for you and your team!
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantHi Paul, hope you and your team have been well, thanks to everyone revisiting this project!
The Schrat look like they’ll be a nasty foe, but they had me wondering about weapons with fire-damage for instance; torches, fire-arrows (ability), and pots filled with pitch/tar, is there any chance that might be within the scope of this expansion? It might be a nice way to do a real take on “magical spells”.
(For effects it could terrify wolves, deal bonus damage to ghosts, and have a chance of kindling/engulfing a unit in flame (Schrat/Fabric-Armor). Torches for night-vision would be cool)
The armour improvements look awesome, and I look forward to seeing the settlement based quests.
As one last question :p… you’ve created some lovely ladies (and hags lol), is there any chance we could get some not so lovely ladies appearing in our ranks? (wenches, run-away maidens, vengeful widows, etc.)
Thanks!
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantHonestly I’d totally have the banner moved to a shield slot to allow the the bannerman a close-quarters weapon just because I like the visual of a sword wielding banner-man. However apparently they considered making it a shield-slot item, but they thought it would render your man more useless than a slightly nerfed two-tile weapon. Which makes sense since you’ll want to keep your banner-man safe, which isn’t within range of most weapons.
Buffing the banners to be equivalent or superior to the pike/bill-hook might work, but it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense given we’re talking about a pike weighed down with fabric, struts and misc, so I’m not sure I like it. And having mad status effects on troops is a bit too towards the magical side of things for me, a little placebo effect keeps it a little more grounded in the low-fantasy imo.
Personally i think many players would like the option of a slightly bigger party, especially in late game when you face far larger ork warbands. Most of the balance is in you deciding what you can and can’t take on, and if it does effect the balance then adjustments can be made to enemy squad sizes.
To keep it significant, but not overpowering, early game I’d limit fieldable troops to say 10, and with the banner add +3-4 troops, it removes a lot of complaints about the banner’s utility verses having an extra dmg-dealer by offering a man to fight in the bannerman’s stead + extra.I like your thoughts and these are just my thoughts, having the lack of a banner cap your troop count might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it might be good to have it be useful in a way that doesn’t have it act as an enchanted pike.
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantWhat if the battle-standard unlocked more slots for units in battle? maybe cut it two ways and have initial unit sizes 1-2 units smaller and battle-standard unit sizes 1-2 units bigger? Then you won’t be “losing” a man, you’ll be gaining a morale boost and a couple more men.
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantCheers here’s a better vampire helmet

SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantI agree, the game is great and it has been interesting to follow its development, I’ll look to get a key for either my brother or a friend. It may also be good to recommend it to strategy oriented youtube/twitch channels.
And as has been mentioned I’m sure many of us would be happy to purchase dlc/expansion packs.
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantHere’s my rendition of the master-sword ActionJack.
Vampiric-Master’s Sword: The sword drains a fraction of the blood drawn to heal its wielder.Attachments:
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantThanks, Paul is on a whole other level of good though lol, if modding becomes accessible I’ll hopefully be able to give that a shot.
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantI agree with what someone said earlier, seeing your pictures in high-res really makes me appreciate the level of detail you’ve put in. That roman-esk suit is super bloody cool though, how long does an armour set like that take Paul?
If battle-brothers was able to support mods, I’d totally love to give it a shot in my spare-time, especially if I don’t have to access the matrix to do it lol.
But look forward to seeing the over two armours, though that armour has set the bar quite high :p
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantNice-work dude!
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantThere’s another suggestion, but for banners
Fucking Cocks, Fowl (Foul) Company,
A wealthy lord hired a company to rescue his bride from a vile cockatrice camping outside her tower. Which they did, after a few loses with the captain delivering the final blow with a busted sword, however the lady somehow later became fat with a child, and this miraculous conception left the lord dumbfounded, and by the time he concluded the worst, the captain had run away with any coin and silverware he could carry a decorative banner of his former employer. The company’s borrowed banner is dyed a bold red, and hosts a commissioned painting of a cockatrice dying from a fatal sword wound, that rusted broken sword now stands proudly erect as a testament one deed or another.
Bad Jest, Jokers Dozen
Once the greatest travelling act in all the badlands! These motley fools can still bring the world to tears, but where did it all go wrong? Some suggest a vomit educing fart-gag at a dinner party, others suggest it was the knife trick in which someone lost an eye. Either way, strapped for cash, their gig has changed and now they entertain some very tough crowds…The banner is a patchwork of materials commissioned from some tailor’s scrap-bin, with a happy & sad face sown to the front in bold white, this all hangs from a pawned trumpet, itself suspended from a bronze pole-arm
I may give a master’s sword a shot next, sorry for not replying!
SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantLol I struggle to think of a way you could have a mid-level farmer’s hat, maybe as a hooded “farmer disguise”. The green-surcoated character with the great-helm looks hilarious though Rahziel, could imagine him falling to his knees “I’m tired of these orcs I just want to tend my fields!”
Obviously I’d love to see a facemask for the lovely jester’s hat :p bells on damage is a sick idea.
If there’s ever more time, or perhaps dlc on the horizon, I could easily imagine “krampus” style masks for particularly nasty cultists
