Love the way you made the Bastard’s flag drape at the top with the lining and bling, very flash love it, the mongolian-esk flag is also very nice.

If I were to make suggestions perhaps the heart banner with 6 knives (3 top and bottom) would crop better, for the heart maybe a flat highlight around the inside of the border would help it pop.

Like Danubian said though they’re all fantastic dude

    “Lucky Bastards”

A squad of men were sent to dig the latrines instead of eat supper for gambling and, in the case of of the victor, trying to purchase the services of the general’s wife on the pretense the fair lady was a whore.
Upon returning from their duties they found their comrades dead from eating a poisoned rabbit stew, who did it… we know not, but these men did conclude that was the luckiest game of chance they had ever played.

Their Banner is a colorful section of silk cut from a tent, painted over with the sigil of a rabbit’s foot aimed towards the sky with arrow and spear locked behind it, the banner itself is festooned with lucky-charms of copper-coin, horseshoe, dice and the like.

I thought somthing like this might be cool…
    null
^^ Maybe something less cliche as a big skull might be lady luck herself casting the dice, or some strands of hair on the skull to suggest it’s lady luck.
^^ Also “Warriors by Fluke” is much funnier but I haven’t the heart to change it.

Tiz similar to RusBear’s suggestion, had another idea but monks praying to gold might not be cool enough for people to use :D

    You’re both lovely, cheers.
Couldn’t compete with your lovely work PsenBattle, also the suggestion was quite fanciful lol, will look to if I have a more grounded concept :D

Perhaps individual creatures (not those I’ve suggested) could be included into the “beast faction”?

I’m not sure how the faction is currently envisioned as working, but personally I really like the idea of their unit-rosters/army-stacks not working being cohesive, and perhaps more something you fight on a quest “Slay the dragon that stole the princess”. As I’d love to combat more monstrous creatures that don’t have a grand-design, and just wander around naturally terrorizing the plebs they prey on.

Like have stacks of units of a theme, i.e. a manticlaw || A few trolls + An Armoured Troll || Many Wolfmen + Alpha Wolfman || etc.

Yeah it’d certainly be cool if mod support was included (I’m sure there’s lots of requests for that), though it’d probably be a big project to add races, it’d probably be simpler than with other games. (I can see a Star Wars mod in my mind space, and it is glorious.)

Thanks dudes, having read the FAQ I feel a little childish suggesting dwarves lol, I’ll probably post an updated suggestion for the “Halflings” and some pseudo elves “Fae” under a less FAQ defiant heading when I get another opportunity to procrastinate.

Yeah I agree, it’s not overly accurate or consistent, to cite a more factual opinion, a German king was said to have bought a suit of plate armour for around 1,300 gold coin… http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/aams/hd_aams.htm, how that translates to the silver of the time idk.

Regardless it does feel like we’ve got a bit of a D&D currency. There’s just something about it that doesn’t feel like it suits the low-fantasy setting the way silver would, as the value of the gold is seeming disproportionately less valuable than the grain my troops eat.

I would love for gold to still remain perhaps in the capacity you mention, or as a reward nobles give you that you can cash in like a cheque.

The OP’s suggestion seems like it might be a simple enough change that I like the suggestion, obviously there’ll hardly be any tears shed if the depicted value of gold remains though.

Fairly cool, given how high the values of coin we’re told we receive, I would think a lesser value coin would be more authentic.

In the GameOfThrones universe 4 gold-coin is basically a suit of armour (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Currency). Which in George’s universe equates roughly 800 silver or 6400 copper/something.

Although in the tv show 8 barrels of Dornish wine are bought for 100 gold, and for a nobel melee contest 20,000 gold is on offer (5000 suits of armour). But that takes place after a long summer in a more heavily populated setting.

I think given the early medieval setting, doubling those amour costs so that a good suit costs 1600 silver would work, but at that point devs might as well just use the current gold values for silver instead.

I think BiggiPills suggestion strays from the FAQ in that they’re suggesting leadership can be passed on, alongside the perspective from which the narrative is told, I find the 1st person a touch strange referencing me when I’m not physically present, so I’d kind of prefer that.

I think given that each character is made up of two still images, animations are fairly unlikely, with still imagery their artist can pump out new assets fairly quickly. Plus as Adam just mentioned the art style kind of wouldn’t compliment it.

Or a more generic name might be “halflings” to give them a touch of being both hobbit and dwarf.

I’d suggest that women are definitely needed within the setting simply as part of the peasantry, as they make-up a larger percentage of most human populations.

Following on from that trail of thought, on female warriors, if female assets (body types) are introduced it seems like a missed opportunity not to allocate a slither (1/10th-20th ?) of the recruitment pool to the ladies, that you needn’t even recruit.

More interestingly adding ladies as potential soldiers of fortune could facilitate story events like fights over sexist remarks and assault, alongside contributing some grim backstories.

In terms of having to fight ladies, I would not expect to see any women in professional armies, however perhaps a wildling force would not be opposed to female archers, bandits might take whoever will join them, and upon being attacked a civilian caravan will muster whoever they can.

Point blank it would make a lot of sense to have female representation and availability as a recruitment option, it just boils down to keeping the level of representation proportional to the setting. i.e. brienne of tarth being an oddity rather than the norm.

If we could take prisoners that’d shake up the meta so much, through having them surrender or be knocked out. Could add to net and club usage if there were related bonuses, and perhaps add context to bandit and goblin raids, even mission objectives.

    We might…
    -Pressgang them
    -Release/Hang them
-Ransom the nobles, sell the plebs as thralls, and the beasts to fighting pits and as curiosities.

And during travel we could have prisoner escape attempts, suicides, and suffer related food shortages. It’s dark and very BBrothers.

Cool idea I’d love these little vanity options. It’d be great if there were artists, for shield paints, surcoats, helmet crests and banners for some coin.
Maybe adding to the company prestige, and the wearer’s determination.

5- I agree mid game items tend to be used and then gone quite quickly, I loot that gear from my foes, ally a village with good stock, and sell items to get high-end stuff way-before my enemies roll out with similar gear. Which is a shame as I like the idea of motley archers and rusty mailed melee troops, but value of veteran troops exceed the costs of quality armour, especially with high recruitment costs. To keep mid-game going I’d need to maintain a numerical advantage for longer, get better men for my money, have men quit of their own accord, fight weaker less profitable enemies.

6-8- I definitely think that two handed weapons are powerful enough, especially if you count billhooks. Against goblins shields are much more valuable due to their reliance on ranged attacks, so I’ll forgo 2 handers in that case, but against orks, you really need a shielded frontline with crossbow support able to transition to the billhook (to keep your glass cannons out of range). Against the undead(++), plebs and wolfmen, it’s good to have two well armoured guys dealing sweeping AOE to the sides of your shielded front or pike&ranged middle.

However with that said I do think that there needs to be a parry system (which there isn’t ?I think?), where if the shield isn’t present the weapon becomes the primary means of defence of which some weapons are better than others.

I would suggest that first the defender simply try to avoid the blow using dodge…
Should that fail the chance of blocking a blow should be: Melee Defence = Melee Defence + (Melee Weapon Defence -Incoming Weapon Evasion)
Should that succeed the blow is blocked and damage is inflicted to the defenders weapon: Inflicted Damage = Inflicted Damage / ((dodge/x)+(Melee Defence/y))

-X Overall I agree with most of what you’re suggesting, BB is by large one of my favorite games at the moment, each update has had me very excited.

I think, first and foremost, it’d be great to diversify the peasantry, and perhaps as noble ladies, present on the battlefield or as quest-givers. The warrior women aspect will also be cool so long as it’s not taken to the equal-representation more at home in high-fantasy.

Wildling huntresses, thugish maids, vengeful widows, bitter whores, disguised daughters, fleeing “witches”, religious nuts, and tom-boys will only add to the setting, if littered lightly in your recruitment pools as a surprise alternative.

I very much doubt there’d be an aesthetic change in regards to how armours are portrayed on women, and it wouldn’t surprise me if there were lower base stats and caps for most female backgrounds similar to many refugees and such. Perhaps for the average run away maidan something like ++determination (as being a woman soldier would require ovaries of steel) and –stamina -MDefence +dodge (as most women aren’t brutes)

See how things shape up though, I’m not under the impression we’ll end up with a bunch of warrior nuns in steel bikinis.
