These look really good!
Are these entirely new mail shirts? Or do these replace the scale and lamellar armor?
I have been thinking, with so many different types of armor, you could save the scale armor and the lamellar armor for other cultures that come with DLCs or similar. Scale, thick cloth and fur(silly I know) for “vikings”, and lamellar for people from the east. For lamellar you could have low-tier leather lamellar and the already existing steel-lamellar armor.
Just some ideas.

27. July 2015 at 19:38 #5518Holy.DeathParticipantOut of curiosity – why are you reworking BB armors? To provide more visual variety (which is great) or to make them somehow reflect the new planned armor system?

Armors 3 and 4 (this is basically 3 with a surcoat) are new. We had a long chainmal in the game design from the start, but somehow it never got implemented :)
Armor 5 is the Coat of scales which is already in the game butI changed the look quite a bit.why are you reworking BB armors?
Apart from the long mail shirt its just cosmetics. After going fulltime I can deliver a much higher visual quality and I want to get the old stuff up to par.
Here’s a little comparison to illustrate my point:27. July 2015 at 21:13 #5521Holy.DeathParticipantHonestly? I doubt that many would be able tell the difference, especially in-game, where art is smaller. Perhaps the old arts look a bit less clear and have less details on them, but overall it’s still great work. I am just glad that you’re working on this game, because you provide a lot of visual feedback that makes the game look so appealing and fresh when compared to other games (very few models resulting in a lot of cloning, often ugly 3D, etc.).
27. July 2015 at 21:25 #5522RusBearParticipanthandmade, luxury goods. both graphically and in terms of gameplay. this is what distinguishes this game. I better believe in these models 2d than 90% of modern “cool” games with their ugly and crazy armor and weapons. Quality and love for their work – so now nobody makes games, because games have become a hot commodity for casual stupid rabble. Developers of Battle Brothers – a rare representative of the case when a favorite thing grew into the game for the general public. I only wish they did not lose the inspiration and strictly adhere to their plan – and succeed. This is the way we all very much want

"OK, OK! Then I´m a wrecked down minstrel drunkard pretending to be a paladin, singing so wrong in the midst of battle that even the undead run in fear... Better?!"28. July 2015 at 19:01 #5554RahzielParticipantYour works is awesome! Can’t wait to see new armors in game. The last two armors purely gorgeous!!
But here is a question about ‘dirtiness’ of armors, especially Gambeson and maybe Basic Mail Shirt: unlike others ‘a bit dirtied’ they look worn out and dirty as if the wearer was drunk sleeping in a ditch repeatedly (that’s cool in a way: mercenary life, full of hardships) – is this the only intended version or will there be ‘brand new clean’ version of armors, which eventually degrade to shabby look as youк brothers wear it to battle, damage and repair? Because if you buy new armor from armor shop(smithy) and it looks like that – it feels totally like fraud.
I know, anything could happen and maybe shop keeper just bought that one earlier this morning from some pitiful fellow and now offers to you as if it’s new.. Such a bold move.28. July 2015 at 19:21 #5555RusBearParticipantwhen I saw the first batch of armor and thought that the best can not be, but I was wrong – the bottom number is confirmed. How wonderful to be wrong sometimes. it’s, holy axe, adorably. I already can see my elite warrior with a two-handed ax in the penultimate armor and horned helmet. You do make a horned helmet for this game as a rare named item, however, Paul? You can’t not do so, I know :)

We will change the order of some of the armors. Heraldic Mail will not stay at the top of the armor progression, which makes sense if you just take a look at the reworked scale and lamellar armors :)

That sounds like an awesome concept. Have you played Farc Cry 2? You could see your weapons getting dirtier with use and if you didnt clean them they would get jammed when firing or even exploded. This immersive and awesome feature unfortunately never appeared again in any shooter as far as I know.
Although something like this would be fun and technically doable in BB, It would mean a lot of work for me and I can’t afford that at the moment. You do make a horned helmet for this game as a rare named item, however, Paul?
Theres none planned at the moment, but who knows what will happen? :)

Nice to hear :)
Will the stats especially the max fatique penalties get a rework too? As I read HP will become more important which will in turn let less room for improvements in max fatique.

We’ll see how that works out. In general it will make more sense to not stack the heaviest armor you can find on everybody. But all numbers will be tweaked again over the course of the next months, so don’t worry too much :)
Only a few armors today, as I have been working on a lot of “secret stuff” for the next update ;)
The one on the right is a coat of plates without the cloth cover.30. July 2015 at 10:10 #5564RusBearParticipantм…“secret stuff” , I think it would be better to sharpen my axe…just in case.
the new armor looks good, as always.30. July 2015 at 16:00 #5565TrigParticipantWe’ll see how that works out. In general it will make more sense to not stack the heaviest armor you can find on everybody.
We stack heavy because it’s the only real protection. If you’d maybe counterbalance that with adding more dodge and evade skills mechanics it may be more effective to fight large, lumbering orcs in light, agile armour, quickly striking and retreating, thus keeping your guy alive. But as it is now, there’s no such mechanic and one lucky hit from an orc can still kill your guy, so it’s better to put all heavy stuff on him in hope he survives. Only the game is currently so punishing with fatigue (even if I select I’ll make one strong guy my tank, but then the leveling gives me shitty stats, all 2’s and I can’t pump up his fatigue), if I give him not even the heaviest armour, but some level 3 or 4 stuff, he’s too heavy and only has enough stamina for one strike, then has to rest. Bit too restrictive if you ask me.

That’s a good point. What about making lighter armor increasing melee defense bonus and/or decreasing the chances of being hit while moving through enemy control zone(s)? This, in addition to changing the armor system, should give people the incentive to use armor (because it’d give protection) but not the thickest there is (because heavy armor would be more limiting that light armor).

Well, what other drawbacks the heavy armor could have, besides costing more stamina to wear? I mean, real drawbacks? Perhaps you couldn’t move as far (it’d cost more fatigue/APs per tile)? Or it’d lower your melee defense, turning you into damage sponge (because your man is easier to hit, which could be both desirable or not: Desirable, because you’d make him into a tank and heavy armor could allow him to soak more damage. Undesirable, because with new armor system armor won’t soak everything and he might die. He could also be more susceptible to crossbows and javelins)?
