looks a bit docile, but then I think that might make sense since it’s sated its hunger.
Exactly. But what did he eat? Hehe.
The two on the right are actually the same guy, just in different states of appetiteThey look neat but more like sort of demonic spawn that wild dead eaters. Especially the horns, horns=demons – the fat one remind me of demonic bosses from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Can we have both? Old ones as a kind of wild bloodthirsty monkeys that live in lairs and dens and like eat anything(addition to beasts along direwolves) and the new ones as sort of demonic infestation alongside cultists and crazy wizards/heretics or alone after they eat them.
27. October 2016 at 14:54 #17772arteofwarParticipantI didn’t think about the horn thing but you have a good point. Once horns are added they do look more like demons then ghouls. Maybe if they didn’t have the horns then. I just wish there was another enemy to use them on cause they are so badass. Maybe make a necromancer lord or a boss who can summon demons. Also I feel like in a world with orcs and goblins its strange to not have elves and dwarves. I know it would change the gritty flavor of the game but maybe a small remnant of their dying races that you have only a small chance to encounter. Like if there was only one dwarf cave that you can help or destroy and make them disappear forever, and like wise for a elf forest dwelling. Helping would maybe open up limited but regular to trade for rare items and harming would give a onetime great reward but no more when they are wiped out.

Just kidding, thanks man!But I’m not! ;)
For your pleasure, Paul. Hope our warm words inspire you to create good artwork.28. October 2016 at 07:44 #17778SuperCaffeineDudeParticipantCan we have both? I do like the original, but I don’t know it the difference is great enough they’d look like separate creatures

The Ghouls will not only get a rework concerning their stats and visuals, but also lorewise.
And they will get a new name. That said, they won’t be your run off the mill fantasy ghouls anymore.
So I think we can get away with adding the horns :)On top of that the old Ghoul just had one visual. I basically just added more variety. The old one is still amongst them.
In hindsight I actually think it may have been a mistake to use the names “Orcs” and “Goblins” for two of our factions as they invoke extremely strong expectations and are already precisely defined by tons of fantasy reference. So whenever we stray from the path of the “known lore” people get confused or disappointed.
Thats one of the reasons I dont want to call the ghouls “ghouls” anymore.Cheers!
28. October 2016 at 12:49 #17787EldarParticipantWow Psen, really digging the new ghouls. Will there be a female one or do both genders have the same appearance? Also will they have some kind primitive culture like small stone cairns and tree paintings or are they simply beasts?
Also I really agree one the orcs & goblin, people really seem to want them to be lotro or warhammer instead of being kind of unique. I think you should have named them Thurs (orcs) and Alfar (goblins) just to have a go with the fantasy conservatives.
Btw will the lore book be done when BB leaves EA or will it come at a later time?
Cheers, Eldar
28. October 2016 at 12:57 #17788AnonymousInactivePaul, the variation on these creatures is amazing. I’ll go so far as to say this is some of your best BB-work up to now.
I’m especially fond of the last two models. They embody a mindless gloutony that suits those beasts very well.
I’m very much looking forward to you guys unveiling their skills and gameplay mechanics!28. October 2016 at 13:22 #17799MikeParticipantI think we can get away with adding the horns
Hello Paul,
I think that the issue with horns is that they suddenly appear “out of nowhere”, as if the creature suddenly transformed completely instead of gradually growing.
In the freshly added “old ghoul” set even the smallest one has some minuscule “spikes” on its head, so the next phases look more likely.Maybe think about adding something similar to the other “starting size”? This way there would be no confusion about where the horns came from.
Regardless of that small issue, most impressive work. Keep at it :)

I agree, calling undead wiedergangers, instead of calling them zombies was a nice touch. I think Thurs and Alfar are too Norse compared to wiederganger which is german, but like the idea. maybe they will come up with names for them that sound more inline with wiederganger.

Are the creatures-that-soon-won’t-be-called-ghouls-anymore the “entirely new enemy” that has been teased in today’s dev blog?
(Please say, “No.” ;P)29. October 2016 at 09:16 #17811RusBearParticipantPaul, your art is so wonderful … I’m even willing to forgive you that still there is no in the game a unique two blade axe )…, but new combat tactical maps(cemetery, ruins, fort). At least a sketch or something like that, please – show the least bit of – calm us.

Thanks man, but there’s more to come. I’m just getting started!

You’ve got a point there. I will let Christof implement them in their current form and then see how the transitions work ingame. If the change is too abrupt, I will add some starting size-with-horns-ghouls.
Then what is stopping you (guys) from also changing the names of your Orcs and Goblins, or are you alone on the team in that opinion?
We all think in this direction, but it might not be that easy. I feel that just changing the name might not be enough, as they also look like pretty classic goblins/orcs. But we will see. There’ll be some more internal discussing I guess.

The new enemy may not be that visually impressive, but he will feature some fun new skills (fun for your enemies at least :))By the way, lots of people asked for “brandnew” versions of the ancient dead equipment. I am thinking about creating a few of those as named helmets and armors. I’ll let you know as soon as theres something to show :)

Hey, we started work on these quite a while ago, but there where so many high priority tasks to be tackled, that they are still on hold. Heres some older pics:

Started? Does it mean that all high priority tasks are done?

No, we are still working on the high prio stuff, thats why we had to put the combat objects on hold.
Cheers!
