Wow! Paul, thanks for the insight into the shoreline development. I think the results speak for themselves. Can’t wait to see this in the game!

(… are you sure you can’t squeeze a skunk into the merc banners? ;-) )

Happy to hear that you like the game!

Regarding mechanics we can not say if they will have any different mechanics or so. This is also a bit of thin ice as people can easily get offended by any differences that “reinforce stereotypes” or gender roles …

Well, the “stereotypes” were at least somewhat physically defined. The combat of the time put most women at a great disadvantage. It’s just the way we evolved? That being said, I could see specialists like sharpshooter archers. Before I get flamed too badly, being the coach for my wife during childbirth removed any “macho” illusions I may have had left. So, while I don’t think you should shy away hedge knight women, they should be a little uncommon. Well, maybe not. Mercenary life would appeal to such hedge knights. Well, support troops sounds like it could have interesting and creative uses.

Plus, think of the fun involved with mixed units! Hmmm … random jealousy in the ranks? Monks that flip out when in the same battle line as women? A female hedge knight that has a habit of inciting jealousy between brothers to fight boredom? Hee hee! Have fun!

Exactly, now you can have a look at the worldmap and already estimate what will be offered in that settlement. If you are looking for weapons and armor visit towns with surface ore veins, smelters and furnaces attached.

Fantastic artwork, as usual. I think the style is perfect for the setting. The idea that a city near a mine will have a better selection of weapons is great.

One thing I like about the game now is that all prices to the company is retail. There’s no incentive to carry inventory to trade. That might make things interesting, but overall, not accurate. Of course, it would be a distraction to running a company, so be sure to not let it creep in!

I’ll admit it’s probably my bias, but it seems that the enemies *always* seem to hit that “impossible” shot at your most important guy! I’m sure that part of it is that the AI looks to see the best hit % vs. benefit. HOWEVER, it very much seems that the AI is blessed w/ “magic arrows”. ;-)

It’s simply worth it, seeing how you go above and beyond each time I think you reached the objective and yet you still keep pouring more and more content.

Very true! It’s why it seemed such a nobrainer to go the supporter router once I found this game. Thanks for all the hard work!

I can’t say for sure, but it seems so. What seems to happen is that unchecked orcs, etc. get more numerous. It seems that if you somehow manage to do enough “raze the location” contracts, that will have an effect on the number of raiders from that faction in that location. Devs, have I got it right?

Here’s the best that the Reluctant Raven Company has been able to scrounge up. I *almost* had one of the sweet “werewolf armor” sets. But, Alas!, the bandit leader fought until his armor fell to pieces. I also had a pretty sweet shield, until a bandit band actually targeted the owner and broke the shield. :-(

It will be several months until the next update. That’s a very long time, but it will be the single largest update for Battle Brothers and something that unfortunately can’t really be divided into several smaller updates.

Sounds good to me! Keep up the good work.

    @OldGreybeard:
A skunk is a little too “north american” for my tastes but I can offer you a Badger Banner. Woulkd that suffice? :)

*Sigh* Yeah, I guess. A skunk just strikes me as a very good heraldic animal as far a colors go, but extremely unlikely as far as reputation goes. I don’t believe the European polecat comes close to the intense, diSTINKtive, hauntingly unforgettable “nose” of a direct spray of the black striped skunk! Yet the skunk fits with the “Brave, brave Sir Robin” style I sometimes play. ;-)
Still, badgers make an excellent heraldic animal. And there’s a definite connection to a mercenary company’s possible character. Badgers are known on both continents for being fierce fighters and very stubbornly doing what they want. So, yes, that works!! Thanks! :-)

P.S. The noble house art examples in the blog post are superb! Keep banging away at what is needed to get the game to match the vision!

We have a brewery planned, I didnt paint the asset yet, but my plan is to make it a monastery with the monks taking care of providing the brew :)

Very much in keeping with the history! ;-)

Every time I check up on this thread, I’m amazed at all the goodness planned. I, also, love the art style of the game. I don’t know how well the play style I’ve evolved will work in the final version, but my “beggar brothers” may still be able to bottom feed enough to survive.

I can see some real problems w/ an actual PC as opposed to the quasi-rpg of the Founders of the Band.

First off, the POV would take the tactics completely out of the game. Once you finished setting up the starting line, you have no real input.

Second, the AI now has to handle the individual action decisions of all the Brothers you can’t actual shout to.

Third, you’d need a new courier class to send your orders to the brothers when past the 3rd of 4th hex from you.

Now there’s the delay of actually giving the order to the brothers actually receiving it, plus a way of figuring the likelihood of that brother actually following the order.

Medieval battles tended to get pretty chaotic. Many that would have been victories ended up defeats (and visa versa) because a sub-commander decided to ignore the orders received.

This would add some level of realism, but it would complicate the game design past the breaking point. No, leave it as is. I have a hard enough time keeping my brothers alive from one job to the next!

    Hey Drygord,
What I would like to do, is use some of these patterns for a distinctive look on certain legendary or named weapons if I find the time.

Sure hope you can find the time!! WOOT to wootz steel!! ;-)

Thanks, Rap. That’s good to hear. Again, you’re doing a fantastic job on this. You’ve made a very enjoyable and varied game at such an early stage, with great new depth and features to look forward to. :-D
