So, since you’re doing village screen work, I’d like to ask:
Are you doing more art for employers? And will we be able to tell what sort of job we’re about to get depending on what the employer looks like? So that a guard captain or a knight offering you a job will probably be asking you to go burn down a bandit / orc camp, or a desperate, pleading villager might ask you to hunt down werewolves, and a fat merchant may ask you to escort his caravan?
5. October 2015 at 20:07 #6962PsenBattleKeymasterAnd will we be able to tell what sort of job we’re about to get depending on what the employer looks like?
Most probably not. The reason is that the singular figures on the screen will be so tiny that we will only show groups of people.
Contracts will not be taken by clicking on individuals standing around but through other interface interaction (work in progress). On top of that the amount of contracts will increase so drastically that it would be too much work to paint different employers for each contract.
So basically speaking the whole system will work differently. Cant give you any details yet, but we will cover this in a blog post eventually :)
Heres a screen of how tiny the people wil be:
5. October 2015 at 20:32 #6963MalthusParticipantIs Karnstein really a city? It does much more look like a big castle with some cottages around.
"I am a Paladin!"
>OMG, Malthus, there are no damn paladins in Battle Brothers...<
"OK, OK! Then I´m a wrecked down minstrel drunkard pretending to be a paladin, singing so wrong in the midst of battle that even the undead run in fear... Better?!"6. October 2015 at 09:00 #6964PsenBattleKeymasterIs Karnstein really a city?
No, not at all :)
Thats just placeholder graphics. This isnt a screenshot as well. I just slashed together some images in Photoshop :)6. October 2015 at 10:29 #6968RusBearParticipantYes, I also wondered – what a great medieval city without a nice warming fire in the middle? with a witch …
6. October 2015 at 10:50 #6970DrygordParticipantHey Paulsen,
Let me know what you think about my pattern welded steel idea for weapons: http://battlebrothersgame.com/forums/topic/wootz-damascus-and-pattern-welden-blades/
If you send me the jpeg file for a basic sword like arming sword I can try design one of the patterns onto the blade and see what you guys think of it. Here is my artwork resume: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=519618098

That gave me an idea for a suggestion.
Paul, you could depict some events happening in the city with each visit. So, it would be something like that: one day we visit Karnstein and they are burning a witch right there, in the middle of the city. Another day (after some days have passed) and we could see people hanging someone accused of murder… and so on

Sounds fun :) Its just that my time is so limited, that I most likely will not get the chance fr a lot of eye candy. But never say never :)
Another possibility as you mentioned “Events” would be to at least have a little artwork for each Event happening, so its not only text anymore.
But as we are already at around 60 events in the game and 40 more in the works, its a huuge pile of work for just one guy (me) :)7. October 2015 at 15:40 #6985Asterix_von_TWCParticipantyou could depict some events happening in the city with each visit

I think this is one of the best ideas I have heard, and most original, and would be really easy to trigger with your current event probability mechanics.
Set probability high, and have positive, negative, and neutral events when entering (and maybe leaving) a city (or approaching if that easier in code terms).

Or at least some of them!
The pictures would add great appeal…
Reminds me of Crusader Kings 2 events9. October 2015 at 13:41 #6996DanubianParticipantJust registered and just wanted to drop in here and tell you that battle brother artist(s) are the most talented game artists i have seen in quite some time.
The atmosphere and medievalish feel to the game are absolutely unique and wonderful and there are many multi million dollar budget games that could only ever dream of looking this good and believable. Specially when it comes to armors, weapons etc. This game is pure eye candy esthetic pleasure.

October 2015 at 01:55 #7036AgathoclesParticipantFantastic game and amazing art style, it really caught my eye and had me give a try to a genre of game I rarely pay attention to and I’m glad I did. I bought very few games the last few years which did surprise some people when they noticed I had purchased a game in early access but this game has a solid foundation and a great artistic direction plus I don’t recall meeting a single bug.
Rant off and now for something more on topic, around what era do you base the weapon and armor items for the human factions? From what I know it appears to be mainly 13th to 14th century Western Europe. I’d like to know what are the prospects of seeing any italo-norman faceplates and duck-billed helmets which I thought would look splendid with the hauberks and kite shields although they are from around the 12th and 13th century. A simple curiosity, I imagine you have your planning already and are quite busy with the new landscape and cities to design and all that comes far behind in the list of priorities.
Good luck with the game and thrilled for new updates :)
16. October 2015 at 17:27 #7048PsenBattleKeymasterThanks for the compliment and I’m glad you enjoy the game!
The helmet styles you mentioned would indeed make for a nice addition if you mean smth like this:
Unfortunately right now there is no time for fancy stuff, but these are definitely on my list. As well as painted versions of the normal helmets. We’ll see if I get the opportunity to work on that during the faction implementation on the new worldmap.
Cheers!
16. October 2015 at 19:25 #7065DanubianParticipantI would really love to see some Rus armors and particularly helmets.
For armors those are mostly a mix of Norse style scales and Steppe style lamellar armors.
This is basically what i mean:
