Does that mean you’ve scrapped the ingame banner generator idea, so we could customise our banner ourselves?
Not finally, but we shelfed it until we are done with the majority of the worldmap rework. When that is finished we will get to the “candy” :)
26. October 2015 at 20:32 #7226MeekyParticipantSo, couple things.
Firstly, since I didn’t comment on it earlier: that swamp background is actually looking pretty darned nice. I know it’s not final, but I like what it’s shaping to be.
– Random Banner (the Charge of the banner actually refers to the character of the house. A warlike house will sport smth ferocious like a ram, axes, lions a bull or antlers. A Benevolent house will sport smth noble like Crowns, Horses, Eagles, Acorns or Fleur de Lis).
And I was hoping to hear something like this. Very nice.
So, here’s another question since I’m thinking on it:
Are there different styles of castles planned for the worldmap? Different village looks? As in, if I see Castle “A”, might it have a different outward appearance (not mentioning attached locations) from Castle “B”? Might this depend on the region they’re in (swamp vs. snow)?
26. October 2015 at 21:15 #722726. October 2015 at 21:43 #7230MeekyParticipantI did. As I recall, however, that blog post is talking about the interface screen differences, not the worldmap icon differences. To make my point…
The all-new village screen shows a panorama of the whole settlement and not just a single street corner anymore.
…which to me sounds as if what’s being confirmed is specifically the village interface, not the stuff we see on the worldmap.
In the screenshots Psen has posted, we can clearly see the differences between the towns / forts / etc. But can we notice that on the worldmap at a glance? That’s what I’m asking.

sorry to hear that – that would be a “candy” that could not be spoil your appetite – rather the opposite.

Hey,
to clarify this: At the moment there are 6 Types of settlements subdivided in two basic categories.
Type 1: Military: Motte-> Small Castle -> Big Castle
Type 2 Civilian: Townhall -> Mayor Hall -> City Hall
You will see what exact type of Settlement it is on the worldmap.
What we wont have is different “looks” for each of the 6 Types. There will be overpainted versions for the snowy regions (snow on the roofs etc).
The settlements on thw rodlmap will look different depending on the amount of houses surrounding it and the attached locations.
When you enter the settlements the village screen may be very diverse, depending on the avalaible interactive buildings.I know sometimes its hard to understand why we are so strict regarding anything that is not “make or break” for the game. But if we dont leave everything out that is not 100% neccessary this project would totally fail with just the 3 of us working on it.

I like candy :D

(remember these banners are just roughs. I will overpaint them for the final versions)Nice!

That is totally understandable. That there are going to be three levels of civilian and military buildings is nice, though. It should create a bit more diversity than village-or-city and tower-or-fort.
Out of curiosity, will the old watchtowers still exist? I’m assuming if they do, they’ll be attached locations.
I’m looking forward to the next developer update. I’ve got a couple questions still concerning art, but they might be answered by the next blog.

A skunk is a little too “north american” for my tastes but I can offer you a Badger Banner. Woulkd that suffice?*Sigh* Yeah, I guess. A skunk just strikes me as a very good heraldic animal as far a colors go, but extremely unlikely as far as reputation goes. I don’t believe the European polecat comes close to the intense, diSTINKtive, hauntingly unforgettable “nose” of a direct spray of the black striped skunk! Yet the skunk fits with the “Brave, brave Sir Robin” style I sometimes play. ;-)
Still, badgers make an excellent heraldic animal. And there’s a definite connection to a mercenary company’s possible character. Badgers are known on both continents for being fierce fighters and very stubbornly doing what they want. So, yes, that works!! Thanks! :-)P.S. The noble house art examples in the blog post are superb! Keep banging away at what is needed to get the game to match the vision!
In a single player game, there's no such thing as cheating. It's merely "creative manipulation of the default settings"!
4. November 2015 at 21:04 #7316MeekyParticipant“diSTINKtive”
You are a truly wicked man.
So, I wanted to know: when we enter a noble’s castle in-game, will their banners be floating on the town screen as well as the world map?
Also, I recall that the villages in Battle Brothers have slightly differing looks when they have different measures of wealth (I.E. impoverished and recently raided towns look overgrown and decrepit while not-so-impoverished-and-raided towns look clean-ish). Is similar planned for the towns on this worldmap? Or for the town screens?
Do note: I’m fishing for chances to see your art. I’m nosy.

The Banner will definitely fly on the worldmap, so you can see what Faction controls the Settlement or if it is independent.
In the Village screen there will also be a clear indicator of the Settlements allegiance. In what form exactly remains to be seen. The current state fo the Settlement will be represented for the most part by the attached locations. If all of them are lying in ruins, the settlement is doing poorly.
If this isnt obvious enough we will think about more visual clues for the settlements current condition.I cant give you more village art right now, but heres a little teaser for the human factions:
