DanubianParticipant
I dont mind losing brothers early on when i dont have equipment or skills to defeat some tough enemies.
But if i put a ~2000 gold worth of body armor and ~1500 gold worth of helmet armor on a brother, i dont expect them to die in 2 hits. There shouldnt be a standard non unique enemy that does that. I invest myself into leveling and equipping these characters, if they are supposed to drop like flies, even with almost the best possible gear in game, then whats the point of RPG elements of the game.
No, i dont find that fun at all. Definitely not as the basic game balance. At higher difficulty levels, sure, im all for giving people that if thats their thing.
DanubianParticipant-I understand the concept of glass cannons (no defense, all offense), and i have no problem with it in games.
However the issue here is about what the balance should be. If i spend 10 hours leveling up and gearing up a brother, he should not die in 2 hits. I mean thats just stupid. If people want that kind of challenge they can use highest difficulty setting, and give them ironman on top. Im playing at the lowest difficulty level and IMO getting damaged for 209 armor and 30-40% of your HP at level 8 is stupidly OP and out of balance. The “its a berserker, it should hit hard” argument is in this IMHO ridiculous. You can make the same argument for every single example of a game feature thats imbalanced. I understand that some people want ultra hard challenge (getting killed in 2 hits) but i dont, for example.
-That heather shield was destroyed from 1 shield breaking hit done by that orc standing beside the green armor guy, i believe it was wielding the common Orc axe. Again i find the argumentation weird. A shield is supposed to provide defense. If the enemy is capable of destroying your shield in 1 hit, then having a shield is almost utterly useless in a melee fight. Regardless of the fact whether it was destroyed by a two handed or one handed weapon. No shield should die in 1 hit. Otherwise shield and weapon as a style is out of balance compared to two handed weapon (because two handed weapon is supposed to have its damage output balanced by the fact that it wont deal damage every time because of shield defense). If you break the shield in 1 hit, then 2 handed is clearly superior. But for the record it got destroyed by the 1 handed Orc axe. And IMO thats just wrong. Wrecking a ~150 gold piece of equipment just like that. Definition of imbalanced.
DanubianParticipantLook at this. A single hit from Orc berserker did 209 body armor damage and 43 HP damage.
One of my better bros has been crippled in a single hit. One more hit and he is dead. This is just stupid. And the guy is level 8 i think, if he was level 1-5 he would have literally 0 chance.
DanubianParticipantAlso is it normal that an Orc can 1 shot kill the medium shield? (the one you buy at the castle, slightly smaller than kite shield)
(look at the guy with green armor, he lost his shield after just one shield breaking hit)
DanubianParticipantI go utility for armor cost thingie, and then switch to defense to pick up that one which makes you immune to morale damage, so i can fight those damned ghost thingies.
I put my level up points on HP, fatigue and melee offense. What do you suggest i do instead? HP, fatigue and mdef?
Edit:
Look at this. Im fighting the Young Orcs. Everything is going fine. Im managing to beat them. And then the bottom most Orc decides to murder my bottom most brother in 2 hits. Sure the guy is at 70% hp, but he also wears armor. Doesnt matter. Orc hits him twice and he is dead. Bam bam dead. Sorry but thats just ridiculous. Sure if i was wearing low level 20 armor, but come on…
DanubianParticipantThats sort of not the point, im talking about the variety and general quality of loot, rather than sheer quantity.
You can get Orc weapons, which are mostly useless to me unless im missing something.
You can get some repair and healing gear and some food.
You can get big shields, which are ok, and you get small shields which are meh (i think castle shields are better?).They dont give you armors or helmets which is like the most important loot im looking for.
And ofc they dont give you premium human weapons.
What im proposing is perhaps giving you ability to collect broken Orcish armors and perhaps have humans forge some super strong armors etc? You know, something completely different to every other faction and exotic at the same time.
And of course note that it appears that the biggest and toughest Orcs use the same exact weapons as the easiest ones. Look at Bandits or Undead on the other hand. Bandit thugs have essentially worst starting weapons; second tier Bandits (raiders iirc?) have second tier weapons, and Bandit Leaders can drop you pretty much top gear (ive had 200 armor helmets, war hammer etc). Orcs need more stuff.
DanubianParticipantOrcs: anything bigger than young orcs is insanely OP beyond belief:
It took ~30 Humans (patrol tower party + my 12 bros) to defeat the Orc party of 12, a mix of Berserkers, like 3 or 4 young orcs and then the rest Orc Warriors i think they are called (the ones bigger than young orcs covered in full armor). The orc party was labeled as “even” to me, and there is simply no way in hell i could defeat them on my own.
The heavily armored Orcs take 3 or 4 turns to die when you surround them completely. Meanwhile some of my bros with 150 armor (body and helmets) can frequently die in 2 or 3 hits (heads fly all over the place). This just isnt “fun” its playing against brutal odds.
You really need to decide what you want Orcs to be, and then make them very good at one thing. As it is they have stupidly insane OP armors (takes ages to kill with any weapons), they have excellent movement, they can do their jump and stun thing, and even the smallest orcs are usually fully armored (although not as insanely) and more importantly armed with the best Orc weapons.
My suggestion: add more Orcish weapons. If you want Orcs to be heavily armored, then nerf their weapons. If they are both Tankers, and Damage dealers they are brutally OP.
DanubianParticipantThe only reason why i ask for more stats variety is because it would allow for more character specialization (or in other words more ways to get a maximum out of certain character you wish to perform a certain role).
The quicker pace and fast character cuztomization is imho one of the best things about Mount & Blade. No reason not to consult it for inspiration.
DanubianParticipantNevermind just saw bandits in the northern part of the map, but again 2 stacks running around together.
DanubianParticipantJust played for a couple of hours. Its day 18. I have traveled the whole map like 10 times at least (im talking about road system) and i have seen 1 hunting party, 1 goblin party and 3 bandits. Now the weird part is, i have seen the 3 bandits in same exact spot, at different dates. I would show you in a screenshot but for some reason i cant seem to be able to take screenshots, i just get black screen of the game.

To me its still just an annoyance as it denies a pretty basic function/service just because.
Maybe if they allowed us to store items in towns the problem would diminish (i can always come back and sell stuff later).
DanubianParticipantI bought the game via steam, its up to date by default. I think so at least.
DanubianParticipantIll restart again today or tomorrow and come back with stats (ill only follow roads for some hours).
16. October 2015 at 20:47 in reply to: [suggestion] Shop work hours, time until inventory replenishes and etc #7076DanubianParticipantI’ll argue against this, though.
The purpose of a castle is to provide a bastion from which the noble that owns the place can manage the lands around him and perform his duty as protector of the people he lords over. A castle exists because it is integral to the feudal system: the serfs owe fealty to the lord, the lord owes fealty to the king, and thus the lord has to ensure that the peasants do well and pay their taxes and aren’t dying off en-masse or else he’s not performing his duty to the king. THAT is why a castle exists.
The armory is open 24/7… for the people that work at the castle. We, however, are just mercenaries. We’re scum to the noble and the people that work for him. They can sell excess gear to us at high prices, and they will, but only when it’s convenient for them. They certainly don’t want us tromping about the castle at night snatching weapons.
If we’re talking about forts instead of castles, the same argument applies. We’re still scum, and the fort is probably run by people who don’t care for our type. They don’t mind selling us things, but only in daylight when all the guards are awake and we can be watched intently. Again, a bunch of hooligans wandering the wilds looking for mercenary work aren’t the sort of people royal officials want around at night.
A world that has undead and orcs has little to do with our world and history. With that said im watching that dev video which shows that castles spawn military faction groups that protect the caravans. So the interest of the castle in game is to protect civilians. Since we as player are enemies to all enemies of human civilians (undead, bandits, orcs and wild animals) therefor castles should be friendly to us (regardless of the fact that human lords might not like mercenary bands going around). Enemy of my enemy is my friend.
But lets put historicity aside, and lets use common sense and gameplay. Does the fact that shops are closed bring anything to the game? Does it provide you with some meaningful choice or additional gameplay? The way i see it, it doesnt. It is simply and merely an inconvenience. I come with a full inventory that i need to sell before i can go back and kill more stuff (the fun part of the game), and i cant because i need to wait. Waiting is a waste time that costs me money. So whats the point gameplay wise, other than to frustrate me? Just because something makes sense in real life (shop owners go to sleep) doesnt mean its good for actual game.
DanubianParticipantI realize that there are random parties running around (and thus i assumed that they do get spawned), the problem is, in the current version, the map is SO large that you can walk around for 30 minutes and never encounter any.
In my current game i walked up all the way to the north east, to an area of badlands thats dominated by undead, and as i walked around i saw a bandit group. Human bandit group. What are they doing in a wasteland? (also saw one that was way up the snowy area in the north just walking around)
Before that i have spent maybe 5 hours following roads between settlements and have encountered bandits only once, 2 groups, one with tough bandits and one with thugs (btw in my first game i also saw this, there was a section of the map where 3 bandit groups would hang around, i think there is possibly some bug there because they tend to stick together).
So, in other words there arent enough groups being spawned and they dont seem to stick around areas that make sense (human bandits hanging out near roads or towns). I have seen Undead and Orcs siege towns too, i know it happens, but there isnt enough stuff around the map for me to interact with (sieging orcs and undead tend to be super strong). -
