Yes, it’s intended – there’s a text telling you about it as you attack the camp. It’s also deliberate that you can’t tell what’s going on and who’s fighting whom.
We’ll link it to a reworked mood system in the future to give you a bit more of a buffer when running out of money/provisions. Whether you have an active contract or not already figures into their decision of whether to desert you or not, btw.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear on this; unfortunately the savegames can’t be loaded anymore because they’re corrupted, but the underlying issue is fixed now and the problem shouldn’t appear again.
