DanubianParticipantI dont understand what is this obsession about making the game hard?
If you think that taking +3 on melee every level is not balanced, then dont take melee on every level. Nobody is forcing you to.
Sorry but i dont like this randomness, all it does is artificially preventing me from customizing my bros the way i want to perform roles i need them to perform.
For example.
I have a melee fighter who is supposed to be a nimble fighter. But i cant make him become that because the game decided to prevent me from scoring more than +1 on melee defense for like 7 or 8 levels. This is just stupid.

DanubianParticipantThey can just load any save game from any of my reports, its there, its been there since the day 1.
DanubianParticipantAfter level 7 its like this for practically every bro…
The game just decides “nope Danubian, you cant do what you want, because of reasons, screw you”.

DanubianParticipantYeah ok im seeing it during the night as well, let me check the settings and stuff.
Edit: ok so when i make my party camp, the lights work properly, i found another Barracks (not Militia just Barracks) and it also works. I think its either “Militia Barracks” not working for me, or that particular location being bugged. I cant check right now because there are no other militia barracks on map and im currently updating drivers.
Edit2: just installed latest AMD drivers, black militia barracks still there.

DanubianParticipantDid you check what it looked like during the dusk?
DanubianParticipantInteresting. I took this mission the very first day when the new patch came out, and i think it was bugged (i reported it), because it would only cash out on killed stuff that got killed precisely on road. Like i had the same idea you did, i went around chasing thugs and raiders, and out of 4 killed parties only 1 cashed out (the one i caught directly on road).
DanubianParticipantIts like the more you upgrade something, the sooner and lower it gets…
Like at first i was upgrading melee defense, fatigue and melee, and all of it was between 2 and 4 (4 mostly being fatigue, melee def and melee mostly being 3). And now, when im ~level 8, basically most of the time melee is +1, melee defense is +1 and fatigue is +2.
DanubianParticipantIm not a big fan of the current system.
I honestly dont understand what the whole point of not letting the player upgrade the characters they want the way they want is such a problem…
DanubianParticipantThere is something about the way you draw stuff…
I cant quite put my fingers on it…
The battles, specially after your people get bloodied a bit, some heads start to fly around, they are sooooooooo aesthetically pleasing. There are very few games that do this for me.
DanubianParticipantJust split goblins into more variations, or tiers. Reshuffle the current goblins, and keep them as more powerful parties, and then add easier types that arent as powerful (or rather annoying) to fight against.

DanubianParticipant1) SAVESCUMING – Lost a battle / mercenary? A lvlup wasn’t as good as a roll as you wanted it to be? Well, you could simply save every time before something like this could happen and reload and try again. You can ALT + DEL and just reload the autosave currently. Hire a mercenary and if the traits are bad, just load etc. etc.
We’re going to change the way stats for levelup are determined. I think we underestimated the compulsion that some players feel to reload until they’re satisfied with the numbers, even if doing this for minutes on end may ultimately be detrimental to their experience playing the game. Not that the game is balanced particularly well at present, but it’s also not meant to be balanced for characters well beyond the statistical average as a result of reloading on levelup on a regular basis. Changing this around isn’t all that much work, but unfortunately it would break compatibility with older save games. For this reason we’ll wait with doing any changes until the first bigger update comes along that will break compatibility anyway.
As for save scumming in general, there is a limit to what we can do without making things inconvenient for all the players. At some point we’ll just have to accept that this is the way that some players apparently want to play the game and that it is their choice to make.2) LURING – Just lure enemy battlegroups into the castle / city / villages / towers and using the milita / landsknechts to fight, tank and die for you. You get all the loot btw.
At least the loot distribution is going to change.
Im one of those players. I used to restart new game like 50 times before i got optimal setup (traits etc). Why? Because i would sink 10s of hours into a game playing a particular group, there is no way in hell id take some debilitating (imo) trait for that long, if i dont have to. Simple as that. You want to make the game difficult, i want to have fun. For me getting a character with a huge morale penalty, -10 hp, fatigue problems and so on just isnt fun.
DanubianParticipantI wish they would add more item types such as jewlery and stuff, as well as make it possible for normal armors to have bonus properties.
Basically more ways for us to customize our characters.
I understand that BB world is low magic, and thats ok, but imo small bonuses like for example a ring that adds +2 melee ability shouldnt break that, no?
DanubianParticipantThe key is to know which enemies you can fight early and which enemies you should avoid.
What i do is make a 6/6 party. 6 ranged bros and 6 melee bros. With this setup you can easily farm bandits, thugs and raiders. You farm thugs mostly to get lower grade weapons (with my setup you shouldnt be losing anything on thugs) and you will raiders in order to get medium to high grade weapons AND farm 110 armors and those -5 fatigue nasal helmets (they also drop 90 and 95 armors which you can put on archers).
What you dont fight before youre higher level are the undead (with exception of those… weidergangers? Zombies with strange German name, they are easy) and you definitely avoid goblins. I hate goblins so i avoid them pretty much always, but there are people who have specialized tactics for them i suppose.
Also fighting orcs may depend on your setup. If you have mostly melees, i would avoid fighting orcs until youre higher level (they will slaughter you), but if you have ranged brothers (specially if you have like 6 of them) you can attack even medium sized groups containing berserkers (which you can pick off 1 by 1 as they wear no armor usually). Its just when you run into orc warriors that problems start (they may require high level or very careful planning, those bastards are tough).
DanubianParticipantI made a thread some time ago where i complained about Orc strength, but what you described sounds, honestly, like a poorly played battle (possibly due to bad equipment or bad leveling options).
There is no way that only 4 orc warriors (orc younglings are easy) can kill 12 people party, even at like level 6+. If each person has 110 armor and helmet (stuff you farm off of bandit raiders) they should be able to survive that.
