Holy.DeathParticipantI am going to make a review on my blog on the site of “the most popular gaming magazine” in my country. Hopefully it’ll get promoted and more people will see it on the main page and maybe journalists working for the magazine will get interested in this. I’ll then try to convert that review to English and put it on Steam. Game is certainly worth it.
Holy.DeathParticipant5 versus 32? Even is such positioning the second entrance is quite wide (3 spots) so you could still get overwhelmed. I guess the best bet was to try to make ghouls run away as their comrades fell from projectiles?

Holy.DeathParticipantYou don’t have to take every swing (this is very important) and you can always increase your stamina with perks and level ups. I never had my billhooks run out of stamina. Mostly because they can only take one hit per turn (occasionally two, if you have perks to do that).
Holy.DeathParticipantI find them OK, because that way you can actually see the head fly in the air.
Holy.DeathParticipantOne point I think that’s worth adding – gauging difficulty of fights is problematic when you begin, especially when it comes to enemies such as werewolves and orcs. They may be weak, but their weak is strong. Very often way too strong for a starting party. Maybe even for an experienced and well equipped band of brothers (you can win, but losses will most likely make it not worth it. More so when you don’t have a huge quest reward or some gold stored “just in case”). I think “strength meter” could use some rethinking.
Holy.DeathParticipantI am impressed with how heather shields look. It adds a welcome variation to them. Which brings me to the question: will we see tabards, like the ones we can see in the background of the forum? I understand it’s mostly esthetic so it probably won’t be high on the list of priorities (if it even is), but it’d help in making battle brothers look differently. Or these will be reserved for some special armors?
Holy.DeathParticipantTo be honest I really don’t think that being able to generate 3 starting members (or just “the player” character) would ruin the game, especially at start (which can be really daunting). The fact that my current 3 founding members are still alive after one month is something that surprises me, given that from time to time someone meets horrible death for one reason or another. If anything I think skill tree could use some re-designing in terms of how talents are grouped and unlocked.
Holy.DeathParticipantTactics depend on what kind of enemy you fight with.
General tips:
– Do try to use at least one hit on any enemy if you have a few other guys around the target. It’ll give you bonus to hit (called Overwhelm).
– Axes are great against shields, but bigger shields (like the ones the orcs are using) require bigger axes (battle axes are perfect, hatchets and basic axes are only good at the begining, against medium shields).
– Two-handed guys should wear something better than a chainmail or they should kill enemy as fast as possible. Chainmail doesn’t last long against certain enemies and two-handed guys have no shield to boost their defense.
– A billhook or two are good way to support your battleline as they can reach two tiles away or move once and attack.
– Try to cause panic in your enemy’s ranks. Lowering morale gets them penalties and you bonuses, also fleeing enemies means free hits and can even cause a chain reaction.
– Don’t try to hit at all cost. Sometimes it’s better to save stamina instead of wasting it on some low chance of hitting. That stamina can be then used for something later on (a shieldwall, or an attack when rest of your men will come in to assist, etc.).On werewolves:
I’d advise going entirely on the offense. Just try to kill as many of them as quickly as possible, to not allow them land their 3 hits per turn. A combination of shields and spears or swords seems to work great here. Spears allow you to use a spearwall and maybe land a few hits before they close in, swords will turn any miss into an attack and werewolves do tend to miss a lot. Experienced archers (or lucky ones) can help from afar, but you can also give them billhook to help at the front when arrows are spent or if situation demands extra bodies in the zone. Try to set up as good as you can to defend against their numbers too. Not always possible, but it can happen, especially in the swamp or forest.
On orcs:
Use weapons that can break shields and armor easily: battle axes, warhammers, two-handed swords or axes or flail (it bypasses a shield). Once shields and armor are gone orcs don’t have that much life. You should be using shields better than a standard round shields, otherwise orcs will deal with them in 2-3 hits and once your shield is gone your armor won’t last long. Try to set up kills for your heavy hitters as they can do some serious damage against them (provided you have men equipped properly with sturdy armor and a two-handed weapons).
On undead
Lost Souls are tricky – spears tend to work best on them, but basically anything that has high percentage of chance to hit is welcome. One you hit them they’re gone. Just try to avoid sending two-handers in. Their armor won’t matter. Lost Souls bypass armor and once your men start to flee they’ll get a lot of free hits. Improving your morale or getting certain perks helps against them.
Wiedergangers require some proper stamina management. Undead don’t get tired and don’t panic, they can also raise again after you killed them. Your own men can raise as well to get some payback on you. Try not to spend stamina carelessly or you’ll find yourself overwhelmed quickly (and once you do it can go downhill fast from there). If fighting skeletons do keep in mind that they are resistant to weapons such as spears or swords. Try to use bashing weapons or stronger axes.
Holy.DeathParticipantAren’t all fantasy medieval works (be it books, games, movies, etc.) just another fantasy medieval theme after Tolkien invented fantasy medieval theme itself? I like that kind of Warhammer Dark Fantasy-ish feel of your world, but I don’t think that art style alone will made it into an universe of its own. It requires lore and some other elements that would help defining it. After all Orcs are Orcs and undead are undead. Unless Orcs and undead themselves are unique somehow.
Holy.DeathParticipantPike could use a combination of the flail and sword mechanic – if something is on tile 1, then it hits, but if there is nothing, then pike hits tile 2.
Holy.DeathParticipantEasy enough to criticize but I know how to play melee type games and use environment as well….
You are the one who calls this game pathetic and accuses people of bypassing the game mechanics, because others are doing better than you do.
Holy.DeathParticipantAre you folks constantly restarting your games in order to ensure you have the best character combo? Restarting every fight to change its makeup? What are you guys doing that makes this a boring easy game?
I am talking about the point that you reach AFTER that hard start. You simply have gear to survive attacks when they connect, shields and abilities that make enemies miss more, archers who mow down targets before they come and enemies weren’t even numerous in my previous game (17 was top and most of it were the ghouls that I killed in one hit). It simply wasn’t challenging, because most of enemies died just after they reached me and hence I made this thread. In my current hard game it’s more challenging, partially due to money limitations and it seems like enemies established some really strong outposts I am in process of cleaing up (with some losses, especially due to the Orcs, who manage to mess up my battle line).
Werewolves…I am usually fighting with my 3-4 guys against 5-8 of them…and I normally get decapitated after first round or two….if I even make it that far. 3 attacks per werewolf….insane….especially when they can 1 shot you to death with those 3 swipes.
You don’t want to fight werewolves without GOOD armor (mail is the absolute minimum) and some experience (as this raises your skills). You need decent shields (to make them miss a lot), some swords (to riposte) or spears (to spearwall) and billhooks (to gang up on the overwhelmed ones). Having a knight or two helps a lot too, because their armor is good enough to withstand for quite long, giving you time to kill some werewolves without losing men. In fact, I’d say werewolves are more dangerous than young Orcs and young Orcs are deadly too. Besides that use tactics: high ground when possible, have at least person attack at least one enemy and make all attack same target to get Overwhelmed bonus, funnel them through narrow passages to limit their ability to swarm you, etc.
I am just curious because so far just playing this game straight out normally I cannot find a way to win and only die after a few minutes into it…and this is at the supposed easy setting – which is a lie…its not easy its not anything setting – other than it should be called the +1000 more crowns for an extra 5 seconds of life setting. I know there is something folks are doing because you cannot win just picking up people from town and arming them…
More money and lesser prices mean you have equip your guys better, meaning you have it easier. Without seeing you playing my guess is you aren’t fighting well enough and by that I mean setting priorities in combat. I won with 3 of my starting guys on hard against starting 7 bandits. They just weren’t well equipped so my guys went through them. One of them barely survived though. And I didn’t go into that fight with only 3 people because I was confident. I simply didn’t have enough money (or equipment in town) to hire and outfit more than my founding memebers.
Holy.DeathParticipantQuestion: can dead raise on their own? I’ve seen this a couple of times and I didn’t notice necromancer around.
Holy.DeathParticipantOn what difficulty you play? Does it even matter?
Holy.DeathParticipantCrown Makers. A wordplay of sort.
